Body building isn’t just for the physical body – it is the call of all who minister to other believers to be involved in building up the Body of Christ. Nearing the end of the tiny Epistle of Jude, he offered seven positive words concerning what we must be prepared to do for people to whom we minister:
We need GOD GLASSES: Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith… We must adopt a Biblical world view and build stronger in that view. We must see the world through the Biblical eyes of God. That view is a view of faith. It is not spooky, but studied. It is consistent and can be measured against the book!
We need a PLUG: Jude 1:20…praying in the Holy Spirit… We must apply the power of the Spirit in constant prayer about the issues of our life – ever yielding and sensitive to His leading.Without plugging in, there is no flow if power!
We need STRONG HANDS: Jude 1:21 …keep yourselves in the love of God, We must walk in our lives in a way that acts deliberately to meet the needs of those around us, calling on God to supply for that need. We must not dilute ourselves into being the source of giving, but steward and be a vessel for what God chooses to do. We need to keep our hearts open, our eyes focused and our hands strong and ready!
We need a FOREIGN FOCUS: Jude 1:21…waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. We must not strive to build permanent comforts here, but seek the good work of God that lasts forever! Instead, I must view my life as pleasing my Father – not my flesh.
We need a SOFT SIDE: Jude 1:22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting; Though unbending to those who desire to take the work away from the Spirit’s work, we must also that some walk in error but will follow truth. To the weak we must be gentle and firm, patient and true.
We need a FIREMAN’S HAT: Jude 1:23 …save others, snatching them out of the fire; We cannot leave behind the work of an evangelist! The fireman has a unique way of looking at fire – with training it becomes an opportunity to save people, not just a destructive force.
We need a HEALTH INSPECTOR’S EYE: Jude 1:23…and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh. Uncompromised reverence for God and walking in truth without a shady motive must characterize our life! How many are too many bugs in the restaurant kitchen? ONE! Clean is the absence of dirt. It can’t be “kind of” clean. It is, or it isn’t. This final word reminds me that I cannot deal with the hearts of others and IGNORE the inner maintenance of my own heart.
It is a tough job, but it is a GOOD ONE for which those who walk with God are equipped if we follow carefully our Father’s Word and provision.

Interesting post. Being an amateur bodybuilder myself, it is good to think that I am doing more than just building my physique. The diet, exercise and regular discipline involved most definitely relates to the way God want’s us to live.
